12 Months, 12 Stamps – Cordoba
Spain – In May two new stamps will be part of the series released this year by Correos, 12 months, 12 stamps. Córdoba and Asturias will be the provinces that will lead these issues, which will be used as the only type of postage for all shipments admitted in the post offices of these provinces.
The Cordoba stamp follows the line of the previous ones and is represented by the letters CO, which represents the old license plates of vehicles in Spain.
Within the letters, you can see significant elements of the earth.
The Mosque of Cordoba, is the most important monument of this land, symbol of the mixture of cultures that lived in our country. It represents Andalusian architecture and is one of the most visited monuments in Spain. It was declared Place of cultural interest and Cultural Patrimony of the Humanity.
The Cordoba Patios paint Cordoba’s streets every spring. It has its origin in the Roman houses and also in the Arab ones, mixing the white of its whitewashed walls with the alive shades of geraniums and carnations. Water is present in fountains and pipes.
Representing the fauna, the wild boar, an animal present in many points of the Spanish geography, is very abundant in the Valle de los Pedroches and the Sierra de Hornachuelos.
Another of the indisputable symbols of Cordoba is the hat endowed with grace and elegance, the Cordoba hat, also called “cañero” or “campero”, an essential complement to the short dress, which together with the red carnation make up a stamp typical of this Beautiful land but that is also a Spanish symbol.
The white grape Montilla-Moriles, Denomination of Origin of wines of the earth like the young, fine, amontillado and odorous.
The Lagoon of Zóñar, Nature Reserve since 1989 and only natural lake that we find in Andalusia.
Finally the salmorejo from Cordoba, a recipe based on tomato, which is taken cold with ham minced, egg and a good trickle of virgin olive oil, very typical product of this land of olive trees.
