Andorra Spain – The Contemporary Art series includes this year a special issue in the form of a block sheet that includes two stamps dedicated to the finalist works presented at the “Tallers d’Art” of La Massana, which competed to represent the Principality of Andorra in the Biennial of Art of Venice of 2017. The winning work of the contest was “Murmuris” of the artist Eve Ariza that will be exposed in the Venetian Biennial.

Lost Origin and Omphalos were the proposals of Zoe and Jordi Casamajor respectively, two works that shared the use of the symbolism associated with the ancestral world to which they opposed the industrial world in which we live, opposition that invited to reflect on the own nature of the human being in The present.

Zoe (Eva Martínez), an Andorran artist with more than twenty years of experience, has traveled from his beginnings in pictorial scholarship to the abstraction of his latest works, boldly mixing techniques and supports such as wood, metal or glass and Always looking for emotion and reflection from abstract symbolic elements in which women play a determining role. Her proposal, Lost Origin, continues with this line, conceiving a giant doll, made with textile material, which as “Venus Primigenia”, produces bodies without soul, “failed human stocks”, product of an abusive technology and a Uncontrolled environment that brings us to the disease and away from our origins.

Jordi Casamajor, a sculptor and passionate researcher of Andorran rock art, projects in his work the symbolism and forms found in the prehistoric engravings he investigates in the Pyrenees. His personal style is evident in his work Omphalos. A sculptural ensemble that evokes an ancestral ritual in which fantastic animals inspired by the mythological, pagan and ethnographic substratum of the Pyrenees rotate ceremoniously around the Omphalos, a magical and sacred center to which they worship.The central axis conceives it artificial, luminous and industrial, with which it symbolizes the new sacredness of the present world in contrast to the primitive one. The work seeks the complicity of the spectator obliged to enter the ensemble and turn around the installation, making him involuntarily participate in the ancestral ritual and stimulating his reflection on the opposition that exists between the primitive world and the present.
