Bosnia and Herzegovina – Radoslav Dodig was one of the most famous Herzegovinians and his love for archaeology and history was unimaginable. He was born on 6 April 1954 at Prolog (Ljubuški). He completed secondary education at the classical gymnasium in Split and studied classical philology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje. He earned his master degree from the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Zagreb. His master thesis was titled „Area of Ljubuški in Antiquity”. Due to the incurable disease, he was unable to present his PhD thesis, titled „Rise and Fall of Ardiaei”. He died on 17 June 2016 in Ljubuški, where he was buried.

It is difficult to describe just how diverse and rich his life was. Radoslav Dodig was an archaeologist, philologist, historian, journalist, columnist, polyglot and a true „living encyclopaedia”, also known as the double winner of Kviskoteka, a highly popular general knowledge quiz show, broadcast by the Zagreb (Croatia) Television in the 1980-1995 period. He was an active associate of the „Matica hrvatska” (Matrix Croatica), President of the „Matica hrvatska” Ljubuški-based branch office, member of the Croatian Archaeological Society, Croatian Philological Society, editor at the „Ste?ak” series published by ZIRAL. He actively participated in the political life of 1990 and held several positions in the Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the time. He was engaged in research and protection of cultural and historical heritage, especially that of Ljubuški and Herzegovina. He has published over 100 research, professional and peer reviewed papers, as well as reviews from the fields of history, archaeology and philology. Radoslav Dodig’s legacy includes his outstanding contribution as a member of the Stamp Advisory Committee in the stamp selection process of the Croatian Post Mostar. This institution has decided to pay tribute to him by issuing the postage stamp in his honour on the occasion of his first death anniversary. (Željka Šaravanja)
