France – Cholet is located in the extreme south-west of Maine-et-Loire, on the border of three other departments: Vendée and Loire-Atlantique in Pays de la Loire region, and Deux-Sèvres in Poitou-Charentes. One of the specialties of the city is the handkerchief. The textile industry is at the origin of the development of the city. The former factory of whitening of canvases of the River Sauvageau, built in 1881, is one of the last witnesses of the textile activity of Cholet. Now known as the Textile and Fashion Museum, it unfolds the stages of making fiber from yarn, and from yarn to fabric. There is also the last workshop of production of the traditional handkerchief of Cholet. Today, the capital of children’s clothing, Cholet is still marked by a very strong fashion identity. Thanks to its many other activities, including the clothing and footwear industry, military electronics, food processing, industrial joinery and plastics, the Choletais basin has become the second largest industrial area in the region. Cholet, a child-friendly city by Unicef, looks to the future with confidence.
