Charming Towns 2020 – First Day Cover

The stamps are centred around the towns of Ciudad Rodrigo, Morella, Tejeda and Valverde de los Arroyos, which make up the front pages of these cards. Each one of the four self-adhesive stamps features a symbol of these charming towns as their key motif. This issue also comes with a vignette that has no postal value.

Ciudad Rodrigo. An aerial image of the centre of this town in Salamanca bordering Portugal is the main feature of the stamp, which is dedicated to this walled village. In fact, the fortifications are one of the biggest tourist attractions of the city along with the castle, built by Enrique II of Trastámara in the fourteenth century, and which watches over the city from above.

Morella. In the province of Castellón, at an altitude of more than a thousand metres, a robust castle watches over the town of Morella, which has been declared a Historic-Artistic Grouping and has been recognised with a Heritage Award for World Heritage Cities. The stamp portrays the spectacular sunset of the walled city at the foot of the imposing castle.

Tejeda. The picturesque village of Tejeda, located inland on the island of Gran Canaria, is a must for all those travelling to the so-called “Fortunate Islands” who are seeking more than just sun, sea and sand. The stamp includes a beautiful panoramic view of the town, featuring one of the island’s natural attractions, the Roque Bentayga, which together with the Roque Nublo, can be seen from any point of Tejeda.

Valverde de los Arroyos. Along the route of the “Pueblos Negros” (Black Villages), nestled amidst spectacular natural surroundings, is the town of Valverde de los Arroyos in the province of Guadalajara. This stamp, which is dedicated to this unique village, is defined by a detail of its urban architecture, with stone constructions covered in slate.
